Atkins Diet Shortcomings – Is The Hype For Real?

Some diet plans are high risk, especially when your body needs the ingredients that you are limiting. There are not many Atkins diet shortcomings, but responsible and experienced health professionals still recommend that the best diet for you is one that is nutritionally balanced and suitable for your body.

Most of the nutritional authorities have recommended diet plans that are high in carbs, but some have also recommended those plans that are low in fat and low in carbohydrates. Any diet that exposes a person to Ketosis tend to be high in fat (saturated) and cholesterol which can increase levels of serum cholesterol causing long term illness or side effects, which is a major Atkins diet shortcoming.

A diet that exposes a person to a risk of developing ketosis would usually be an extremely low carb diet plan. Low carb diet plans tend to increase uric acid levels further leading to gout or kidney stones later on. These Ketogenic diets can increase the amounts of fluid lost from the body and lower the appetite, although those trying the diets will lose weight within one to two weeks.

Dr. Atkins has claimed that Ketogenic plans can induce an condition that is abnormal because the body tends to produce excess ketone bodies. These ketone bodies are one of the reasons for a person losing weight while on a low carb diet. The body uses ketone bodies to replace the lost glucose and thus the body fluids become low.

Before commencing these kinds of diets one should consult and follow advice from a professional, and most will not recommend these types of risks. If the diets must be carried out, the person will lose weight but it is more fluid that fat. The diets can cause illness like heart disease, especially if followed long term, therefore a balanced diet should be tried.
