A Comprehensive Look At The Atkins Diet Plan! |
|
June 23, 2005 By: Melissa Cameron Atkins Low Carb Diet – Successful Over The YearsDr. Robert Atkins passed away following a fatal injury to the head after he fell on an icy pavement at the age of seventy two, but not before he completed decades of research into the effect of carbohydrates on the body. Atkins low carb diet was introduced in the 1970’s and following a re-launch of ‘Atkins New Diet Revolution’ in the 1990’s, the low carb plans now have around thirty million followers worldwide. The Atkins low carb diets have proved popular with consumers but not with many health professionals. Dr. Atkins argued for years that low fat diets were in fact doing the opposite to the American public and that the carbohydrates in the diet were actually doing the damage. The debates went on and on, and the American Medical Association continued to disagree and called Atkins before a committee to testify. He was subject to lots of negative press and called a fraud, even though his books continued to sell following successful dieters testimonials. Dr. Atkins diets were introduced to slim down America as, he claimed, the fats in the diet divert attention away from the real cause of weight gain – carbohydrates. Laila S. Roth, who is against the low carb plans, stated that the diet really means weight loss quickly, due chiefly to fluid loss. Finally, the New York Times magazine covered the story and at last published that Dr. Atkins was correct all along, and that the low fat diet plans that many had followed over the decades had actually done more harm as Americans were fatter than ever. Although Atkins diets are low in vegetable and fruit, they have been proved to reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers by low carbs.
