July 17, 2005 By: Melissa Cameron Low Carb Controversies – The Controversy EnsuesCarbohydrates. Are they a good thing, or a bad thing, does anyone have the answer? It seems that low carb controversies will continue until the proper research can be done to confirm the answers. Experts have fueled the low carb controversy which has led to low carb diets being avoided by Doctors and health professionals, most of whom believe that a balanced diet is so much more important that cutting out carbs completely or eating low amounts of carbohydrates. Some of the top nutritionists have been debating again about the low carb products and whether or not carbs should be labeled good or bad. There is also the question of whether or not it is proper to label carbs, or low carb foods in any way. The idea has been based on the glycemic index (G.I), upon which some of the more recent diet plans have been based on. This GI idea is a way of rating how fast carbohydrates are digested in the body and are turned into the sugar in the bloodstream. Using this as a guide, the faster the carbs are digested is worse as far as the diet is concerned. Health professionals are consistent in that the low carbohydrate diets are unethical, and the controversies surrounding the controlled carb diets still prevent them being recommended by doctors alike. The controversies about the lower carb diet plans continue.
