A Comprehensive Look At The Atkins Diet Plan! |
|
September 04, 2005 By: Melissa Cameron Atkins Weight Loss Plan – Study Finds It EffectiveUnlike the traditional diet plans that tell us to eat low fat foods in order to lose weight, and maintain it, two new studies into the Atkins weight loss plan have taken place and are concluding that the Atkins diet plan is more effective and safe than is originally thought. Although there are variations on Atkins weight loss plans, it is the Atkins diet plan that has been viewed as potentially dangerous and risky to health, and the Atkins diet that was tested in two new studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Gary Foster is the Clinical Director at the University of Pennsylvania’s weight and eating disorders program and was responsible for leading on of the studies. The patients received minimal support and were just given a free copy of one of Dr. Atkins best selling books; the other patients were given instructions to follow the typical low fat diet plans. Foster has confirmed he was surprised when he got the results, as he had been skeptical, but he says that the diet deserves further study. The diet plans released by Dr. Atkins have been criticized since their release to the public in the 1970’s, and even following the results of this bit of research, it still brings concern amongst the health professional and critics alike, simply because of the high fat and high protein intake that the diets so readily encourages. After a year, weight losses were an average of 9.5 kilograms in the Atkins diet followers, and just 5.4 in those following a traditional diet plan, and cholesterol and blood pressure levels were reduced at the conclusion of the research.
