September 14, 2005 By: Melissa Cameron Atkins Diet Opponents – They Seem To Keep On GrowingThere are so many people out there that are Atkins diet opponents that we have all spoken to one! Many of us see the results in other people, lots of weight loss and increased stamina, but still continue to be an opponent regardless of the plans high success rate, mainly because of the traditional plans that the professionals have encouraged us to follow over the years. As an Atkins diet opponent myself, I have long been led to believe that Dr. Atkins theory that is based on carbs and how they are the cause of weight gain, and not fat. It appears that many of us follow diet plans without success, yet those we know follow the Atkins diet and lose masses of fat. We need to still be slightly cautious, as with any diet, as the studies are not numerous enough yet to confirm to us whether or not the diet plans like the Atkins are actually safe and, just because we may lose weight on a diet, it certainly does not mean that it is not potentially damaging. Dr. Atkins has been so popular since he released his findings in the 1970’s, now there are well over thirty million followers worldwide and celebrities have certainly helped spur on the popularity of the plan. Opponents include the major health organizations like the American Heart Association, and regardless of patients that want, and may need, to lose the pounds, they will still continue to recommend the more traditional low fat and low calorie diets. Many people that are desperate to lose weight are using the Atkins plans to lose it quickly, and are ignoring the potential health risks, regardless of studies carried out or recommendations from their Doctor. Be safe when dieting, and always take advice of a professional before undertaking any diet.
