A Comprehensive Look At The Atkins Diet Plan! |
|
September 18, 2005 By: Melissa Cameron Low-Carb Health Problems – Doubts About The Diet ContinueShane Bilsborough, M.Sc, and Timothy Crowe, PhD, have recently exposed the low-carb health problems that are so rife, following the increasing popularity of the controversial low carb diets. They have claimed the low carbohydrate diets cause both short and long term health damage, such as heart arrhythmias and kidney damage, amongst others. There is also a risk of sudden death, which is probably the main low-carb health problem that has come out in the latest scientific review which has been published in a paper which appears in an issue of Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Both the authors, based in Australia, claim that the health risks outweigh any potential weight loss when following a high fat and low carbohydrate diet. The diets are designed to strictly control the intake of carbs to such a low amount as fifteen to twenty grams per day, just over a tenth of the recommended daily allowance. Other potential long-term health problems from the plan are those such as kidney damage and an increased risk of cancer. Short term health problems are viewed as hazardous and could result in cardiac arrest following a sudden decrease in the amount of carbs taken in when following such a diet. Low carb diets include foods that are encouraged by Doctors, although the diets mainly exclude those foods (like fruit) which our body depends on to build defenses. The lower carb diet plans make the body act like it is being starved, and therefore has a tremendous impact. They are also concerned about food manufacturers introducing low carb products, which will encourage more and more people to take the dramatic low carb plunge. Many professionals recommend that you follow a balanced and healthy diet, and take plenty of exercise.
