September 21, 2005 By: Melissa Cameron Low Carb Snack Variety – Not A Lot To Choose FromFollowing major success of low carb diets that were introduced in the 1970’s, the demand for food products that can be eaten when following the diet is on an increase. The low carb snack variety today is not huge, and companies are now jumping on the band wagon to fulfill consumer demand, although now consumers want snacks that are low in carbohydrates as well as low in fat. Low carb snacks variety has not been introduced yet, but the demand for it is increasing. Critics are creating a controversy relating to the high amounts of saturated fats found in low carbohydrate foods and snacks, which have always been seen as the root of many weight and health problems. Morningstar Farms recently carried out a survey into the types of foods available which are low carb and reduced fat, and found that over fifty percent of those surveyed on the issue stated that low carbohydrates and low fat foods were more important, and that women were more likely to notice this in a food or snack. Other findings were that variety in the low carbohydrate diet was very important; that over thirty percent of consumers following the low carb diet wanted convenient food low in carbs, and the over fifty percent wanted ready made foods and found this was why the diet was successful. Over sixty percent of dieters stated that having more options that were lower in carbs was extremely important. The company has specially packaged foods to show low carbs and fats, and they have thirteen tasty products with the labels such as Harvest Burger, Veggie Breakfast Bacon Strips, and Tomato and Basil Pizza Burger.
