Low-Carb Fast Food – Unhealthy, Says Doctors

Health and nutrition professionals have recently launched a new attack on the low carb diets that over thirty million people currently follow in order to lose weight. They have focused their attack on low-carb fast food, which is available almost as a standard product, at most restaurant chains that sell fast food to the masses.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine have supported the health professionals and have been responsible for the analyzing of low-carbs fast food entrees that are widely available at fast food or restaurant chains.

Foods that claim to be low in carbs, also appear to contain excessive amounts of calories and fats that are known to be dangerous and risky to the body, both short term and long term.

The first of the worst is Spring Chicken Salad available at Ruby Tuesday. It contains 1,161 calories and a whopping ninety eight grams of fat, but its low in carbohydrates! Certainly not the best option.

The rest on the list is:

  • Double Whopper with Cheese, without the bun or sauce (Burger King)
  • Beef Fajita Caesar Salad (Chili’s)
  • Black Angus Sirloin Low-Carb Fajita (Don Pablo’s)
  • Double-Double Burger Protein-Style (In-N-Out Burger)
  • 1/3 Pound Low-Carb Thickburger (Hardee’s)
  • Grilled Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad with Chicken and Ranch Dressing Steak (McDonald’s)
  • Picado (Baja Fresh)
  • Buffalo Chicken Salad (Blimpie)
  • Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap (Subway)

Amy Joy Lanou, Ph.D. Nutrition Director for PCRM says that the obsession has obviously taken over. No doubt the recommendations are to avoid high fats and high calories, even if the food contains low carbs. It is best to opt for a more balanced menu.
