Atkins Diet Studies – Research Continues

The success of the Atkins diet has not found favor with doctors who still prescribe low fat, high carb diet. Though various Atkins diet studies have been conducted and results obtained, traditional views are being maintained by most doctors.

A recent Atkins diet study conducted for a year shows great results. Research conducted by the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine proves that good cholesterol (HDL) increased and triglycerides decreased by following the Atkins diet. Atkins diet plans are good for people who are obese. According to the diet plan, the person has to restrict the level of carbohydrates and increase the intake of protein rich foods.

One half of the dieters in the study were subjected to Atkins diet while the rest were on a low fat diet. It was seen that those on Atkins diet lost twice as much weight in the first 3 months and 6 months. At the end of the year, the study found that the difference was less, though people on the Atkins diet had higher good cholesterol and a reduction of triglycerides.

Obesity is a worldwide health problem and people have been trying for ages to find the right type of diet to reduce weight. Traditionalists still give a vote of confidence for the low fat, high carb diet. Whereas with new studies being conducted, it is increasingly shown that the low fat/high carb diet could be bad for a person’s health. The Atkins diet is becoming very popular and already there are millions of Atkins followers. A lot of fad diets have started cloning the Atkins low carb diet plan. More studies are required to clearly state the benefits of the Atkins plan.
