The Atkins Diet Controversy
A Comprehensive Look At The Atkins Diet Plan!

The Atkins Diet Controversy

The Atkins diet controversy is primarily based on misconceptions and lack of understanding of the four phases that were just outlined. Most of the controversy is based on phase 1 of the diet.

Controversial diets are not uncommon - the more success people have on a diet plan the more controversy seems to pop up. Skeptics begin to fill the airways and there is always a story in the news saying the diet is another one of the endless hoaxes in the industry.

The controversial diets had quieted significantly surrounding the Atkins' plans because research has not been able to disprove the theory of the diet or combat its success.

Skeptics argued that there would be a tremendous spike in the cholesterol level of the dieters. Medical research has not shown this and in many cases has shown the opposite to be true.

Opponents have argued it is unhealthy because you need more than 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. What they fail to mention is that number is in Phase One and is based on Net carbohydrates, not total carbohydrates - a big difference.

Skeptics will point to people who fail on the diet and regain most or all of their weight, or perhaps even more than they lost. Typically that is because the dieter failed to follow phase 3 and phase 4 and went from phase 1 or 2 right to eating the way they ate before the diet.

Stories in the news about this controversial diet plan have been both positive and negative. None of these stories, however, have shown any scientific proof that would disprove the plan and its amazing success.

The Atkins diet controversy has undoubtedly been fueled by industries hit hard by the change in our palate. The bread industry, bakery industry, candy industry and other such high-carbohydrate, high sugar industries have been forced to change their products or even go out of business.

There is no doubt that a good portion of the controversy surrounding this highly successful diet plan is fueled by these industries.
